About This Course

The Bachelor of Health Science (Oral Health) at AUT is designed to prepare you to become an oral health therapist. This degree covers oral health assessment, diagnosis, management, treatment, and preventive care, providing practical experience through simulation labs, clinical placements, and community projects. Graduates are eligible to register with the Dental Council of New Zealand and can work in both public and private healthcare environments, as well as oral health education and promotion.

Entry Requirements

University Entrance or equivalent

Capability to meet Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act (HPCA Act) and Children’s Act 2014 requirements, including police clearance

English language IELTS (Academic) 7.0 overall and all bands 6.5 or higher (if applicable)

Preference given to applicants with Biology and one subject from a list including Art History, Classical Studies, Drama, English, Geography, Health Education, History, Media Studies, Social Studies, Te Reo Māori or Te Reo Rangatira.
