What You're Signing Up For
This apprenticeship is designed for those working as Diversional or Recreational Therapists, Activity Coordinators, or in related roles within the health and community sectors. The programme provides comprehensive training to enhance emotional, spiritual, and physical wellbeing for clients, whānau, and families. Supported through on-the-job and online learning, apprentices gain critical thinking, reflective practice, and leadership skills. On successful completion, graduates can seek registration as Diversional and Recreational Therapists in Aotearoa.

- Foundations and role of diversional therapy practice
- Professional engagement and communication with clients and their whānau
- Relationship building and outcome support
- Applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi, kawa and tikanga in practice
- Understanding New Zealand's health and wellbeing system and objectives
- Self-awareness, reflective practice, self-care, and personal leadership
- Professionalism, safety, and quality in the workplace
- In-depth exploration of chosen conditions, impairments, or social issues to support clients
