Demonstrate understanding of and compliance with health and safety legislation and procedures relevant to building and construction environments.

Recognise and select appropriate timber, materials, and power tools for specific construction tasks.

Plan construction projects by producing basic drawings and sketches, and preparing for practical work.
This programme is designed for learners seeking to gain foundational skills relevant to building, construction, and allied trades. It combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on projects, introducing health and safety, construction materials, use of power tools, interpreting plans, and working as part of a team. Students plan and complete building/construction projects under general supervision, gaining practical experience for a range of trade occupations.

Domestic learners aged 16 and over.
Completion of New Zealand Certificate in Building, Construction, and Allied Trades Skills (Level 1).
