In-person study
Face-to-face learning in a physical classroom setting

Demonstrate ability to organise and manage the workflow and resources for a construction project.

Identify, select, maintain, and use hand and power tools correctly and safely in construction projects.

Construct items such as furniture or small buildings using timber and applying best practices.
The OSTC Building and Construction (Level 2) course at Otago Polytechnic teaches practical skills in construction for secondary students, including project planning, safe tool use, building furniture and structures, and understanding building plans. Upon completion, students gain the New Zealand Certificate in Building, Construction and Allied Trades (Level 2) with 40 credits towards NCEA Level 2. Delivery is on-campus at Dunedin or Cromwell, with no tuition fees for most students as it is usually fully funded.
