About This Course

The Diploma in Animation (Level 5) at Yoobee delivers a solid foundation in animation, covering key principles, techniques, and industry practices in both 2D and 3D digital animation. Students develop artistic and technical skills, mastering leading software, and learn how to realise creative concepts for character and effects animation. With small class sizes, personalised mentorship, and exposure to industry workflows, learners are well-prepared for future study or employment in the creative sector.

Course Content

  • Principles of animation (applied to 2D and 3D media)
  • Foundational art skills: observation, drawing from life
  • Industry-standard animation software: Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, Animate, Premiere, Audition; Audacity, Sculptris
  • Digital production and 3D modelling: asset creation, texturing characters and objects
  • Key animation: 3D character animation processes, planning, and performance
  • Final image creation: composition, lighting, rendering, atmosphere, and mood
  • Portfolio development
  • Mentorship and industry practice

Entry Requirements

NCEA Level 3 with credits in a relevant subject and a portfolio of creative work and interview

OR New Zealand Certificate in Digital Media and Design (Level 4) or equivalent

International: 18 years+, proof of English language skills within last 2 years at IELTS 5.5 (no band below 5.0)
