Apply knowledge of historic design movements and built environments, including in the Aotearoa context, to contemporary interior design practice.

This diploma prepares students for a career working as a professional residential interior designer, with industry-engaged practical learning, exposure to the wider interior design sector, and real-world work experience. It covers design principles, history, digital and manual communication, materials technology, and professional business skills. Graduates are well-equipped for employment in the residential interiors industry or further study, including commercial interior design.

48 NCEA credits at Level 2 or higher and 10 credits in mathematics (excluding statistics)
Relevant NZQF Level 3 qualification or above
Applicants aged 20+ may be eligible based on evidence of aptitude or experience
All applicants: Evidence of English proficiency as per Unitec and NZQA requirements
Self-employed contractor in interior design
Use ergonomic and design theory to create functional, aesthetically pleasing kitchen, bathroom, and living spaces.
