What You're Signing Up For
The Certificate in Youth and Community Leadership (CertYCL) builds on UC’s expertise in humanitarian work and social activism. The programme develops introductory leadership skills through exploration of leadership theories, group projects in the local community, and engagement in social change. It's open to anyone with an interest in leadership, community work, or social change, and provides an accessible pathway for those in or aspiring to such roles.
Course Content
- Leadership of self and others, including contemporary leadership theories
- Exploring Aotearoa New Zealand’s unique leadership contexts
- Learning theory: how and why people learn, and the implications for leading change
- Community engagement through service learning (CHCH101)
- Group projects in the local community
- Noho marae experience in Ōtautahi Christchurch (part of YACL101)
- Compulsory courses: YACL101, CHCH101, EDUC101 or YACL102, YACL201
