Safely install, test and diagnose electrical cords, cables, and equipment in accordance with relevant legislation.
This pre-apprenticeship programme provides the foundation knowledge and practical skills required for those wishing to become electricians or work in non-registration areas of the electrical industry. With hands-on learning in modern workshops and industry-connected lecturers, the course prepares students for apprenticeships or roles in areas like electronic security, appliance servicing and automation. Successful graduates can progress to a Level 4 Electrical apprenticeship to become qualified electricians or pursue further study.

Minimum age 16 years at programme start (or completed Early Release Exemption Form).
NCEA Level 1 with Mathematics and English or equivalent knowledge and skills.
For students aged 20 or over who do not meet academic requirements: evidence of aptitude or relevant experience.
Evidence of English language proficiency equivalent to NCEA Level 1 English (for domestic students if not first language, or as per NZQA rules for international students).
Entry-level roles in automation
Progression to registered electrician (with further apprenticeship)
