What You're Signing Up For
This Level 3 certificate equips learners with essential electrical engineering knowledge and skills, including safety procedures, electrical theory (DC, AC), installation, testing, workplace documentation, and legal responsibilities. Graduates are prepared to enter electrical apprenticeships or entry-level roles within the electrical and related industries under supervision, compliant with NZ regulations.
Course Content
- Electrical workplace skills and safety; first aid and CPR certification
- Direct current (DC) theory and systems
- Alternating current (AC) fundamentals and electromagnetism
- Installation and fault-finding for electrical cords, cables, and equipment
- New Zealand electricity supply system and user protection methods
- Circuit protection, drawings, switching circuits, and lighting
- Cable and wiring systems, including in damp situations
- Transformers, electrical machines, and isolation procedures
- Capstone assessment for knowledge of theory and practice (EWRB exam alignment)
What you need to know first
NCEA Level 1 with Mathematics and English subjects; or equivalent knowledge and skills for entry
