The New Zealand Diploma in Environmental Management (Level 6), Marine Strand, deepens your understanding of marine and freshwater ecosystems. Building on Level 5 studies, you'll study subjects like research design, data management, environmental reporting, freshwater and marine ecology, and the regulatory environment. Elective modules allow specialisation in aquaculture, diving, marine tourism, coral reef ecology, and biosecurity. Emphasis is placed on practical field skills, risk management, and direct engagement with real-world projects. Graduates can go on to further study in the third year of a Bachelor of Applied Science (Biodiversity Management) or a Bachelor of Science (Ecology and Biodiversity) with the University of Waikato. Career opportunities span marine monitoring, biosecurity, iwi liaison, fisheries enforcement, diving, aquaculture, research, and more.
