Describe principles involved in maintaining soil fertility, structure and organic matter with emphasis on pasture and crop plant health and management in New Zealand pastoral agriculture.

You’ll look at the structure and function of agriculturally important plants and the role of crops and pastures in Aotearoa-New Zealand farming systems and their management. This course covers the description of land uses, resources, and production systems in New Zealand agriculture, integrating soil, animal and plant sciences and engineering. It emphasizes soil fertility, pasture and crop plant health, sustainable farm practices, ethical and sustainable farm management approaches. The course requires some on-campus activities for completion and awards 15 credits upon successful completion.
