The Bachelor of Culinary Arts at Otago Polytechnic is a unique three-year, Level 7 degree that equips you with the technical cooking skills, creative design tools, and business practices needed to succeed in the food industry. The programme emphasises innovation, leadership, and the development of new food concepts, with real-world learning through industry projects and internships. No prior culinary knowledge is required, just a passion for food and motivation to create memorable food experiences. Flexible pathways include Assessment of Prior Learning (APL) and Work Integrated Learning (WIL), so those with industry experience can fast-track their degree while continuing to work.

Gain fundamental skills in kitchen management, leadership, and effective team collaboration in diverse environments.
NCEA Level 3: 60 credits at Level 3 and 20 credits at Level 2 or above; with minimum 10 Literacy/Te Reo Matatini credits and 10 Numeracy/Te Pāngarau credits, or equivalent qualifications/experience as demonstrated by CV and application letter.
CV detailing academic record, work experience, and interests.
500-word letter of application explaining motivation, expectations, and career goals.
If NCEA Level 3 not held, must demonstrate equivalence, possibly via interview.
English language proficiency: NZ University Entrance, or IELTS 6.0 (no band lower than 5.5), or equivalent for non-native speakers.
