It will take a total of 1 year

Demonstrate fluency and flexibility in te reo Māori in a variety of familiar and some less familiar situations.

Use intermediate-level skills and understanding of Māori language and cultural concepts in professional and community contexts.

This 1-year diploma provides immersive intermediate-level skills in te reo and tikanga Māori. Delivered mainly in te reo Māori, it develops language proficiency, cultural competence, academic writing, and Māori research skills. Graduates can communicate independently in te reo Māori in familiar and some less familiar situations, and can pursue roles in Māori radio, teaching, or other careers requiring intermediate reo, or continue studies to bachelor level.
What you need to know first
Completion of Te Tohu Tauihu (Kaupae 4) | NZ Certificate in Te Reo me Ngā Tikanga (Level 4) or equivalent qualification or life experience.
Interview to confirm language capability may be required.
