Use Te Reo Māori vocabulary and grammatical structures at an advanced-intermediate level in various situations.

Demonstrate understanding of connections to land, places, people, histories, and stories using Te Reo Māori as an expression of mana whenua.

The New Zealand Certificate in Te Reo Māori (He Pī Ka Rere) Level 4 programme is the next step for those with basic proficiency in te reo Māori. It furthers both language ability and cultural understanding in a safe, interactive, and supportive environment. The course teaches a variety of sentence structures, expands vocabulary, practices using different tenses, and explores distinguishing between Māori and non-Māori sentence constructs. It also covers tikanga Māori (practices), waiata (songs), and karakia (prayers/rituals), empowering students to use Māori confidently in both formal and informal settings.
