What You're Signing Up For
This 19-week blended programme supports advanced-level learners to develop their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in English for academic and professional contexts. Graduates will gain the ability to communicate complex ideas with fluency, read and write academic texts, and engage confidently in discussions. Completion meets English requirements for entry to UCOL's Bachelor of Nursing, postgraduate certificates and diplomas, honours, and higher degrees, and is equivalent to an IELTS 6.5.
Course Content
- Reading Level 5 (15 credits): Understanding lengthy, complex academic texts and precise vocabulary.
- Writing Level 5 (15 credits): Writing with a high degree of accuracy across a range of sophisticated grammatical structures, using appropriate and idiomatic vocabulary.
- Listening Level 5 (15 credits): Understanding extended academic or professional speech, including various accents and idiomatic expressions.
- Speaking Level 5 (15 credits): Speaking fluently and spontaneously in formal and informal academic settings.
What you need to know first
New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 4) (Academic) OR equivalent skills and knowledge, such as IELTS 6.0 (single report form). Diagnostic test may be used for placement for students in New Zealand.
