This course requires 3 hours per week

Gain confidence in speaking te reo Māori for everyday situations and personal introductions.

Learn vocabulary, correct pronunciation, sentence structure, tenses, and grammar for written and verbal communication.

Engage with mōteatea, karakia, tikanga Māori, and use te reo Māori in a marae setting.
Māori Night Classes at Unitec offer an introduction and progressive learning pathway in te reo Māori, the language of Aotearoa's tangata whenua. Courses are delivered in a tikanga Māori environment and are designed for adult learners of all backgrounds, with four levels ranging from beginner to full immersion. Classes are taught at Mt Albert and Waitākere campuses and focus on language development, culture, and community connection.
What you need to know first
To enrol for free, must be a New Zealand citizen or resident (certified documentation required).
Toru and Whā levels are only taught at Mt Albert campus.
