Graduates will be competent to practice as newly Registered Nurses, meeting all Nursing Council of NZ requirements, including passing the NCNZ registration exam.

Ability to provide general nursing care, undertake clinical assessments, develop and evaluate health care plans, and work independently or collaboratively in multiple settings.

The Bachelor of Nursing at NorthTec is a three-year degree designed to prepare students for registration as a Registered Nurse in New Zealand. The program combines theoretical learning with over 1,100 hours of clinical placements in Northland region healthcare settings, providing hands-on and classroom-based teaching. Students will learn comprehensive nursing knowledge, human bioscience, health and illness care, clinical practice, and participate in placements to develop practical skills. Graduates will be competent to assess health needs, support clients in managing their health, and practice both independently and collaboratively. The course also ensures readiness for the Nursing Council of New Zealand registration exam.

Minimum age of 16 at programme start
NCEA Level 3 with University Entrance (including 14 credits in an English-rich subject and 14 credits in a science subject)
B passes in a Level 4 Foundation Programme OR evidence of recent tertiary study OR two years relevant work experience
Police vetting/clearance
Health and immunisation clearance
Names of two referees
Ability to read, write, and communicate in English at a safe and effective level for clinical practice
Enrolled Nurse Supervisor
