Students will read and write music to an elementary level and contribute to music composition and arrangements.

Students will perform music with confidence and technical ability suitable for live audiences.

Students will develop practical skills in recorded and live sound production, including studio and live environments.
The New Zealand Certificate in Music (Level 4) at NMIT provides learners with a foundation in contemporary music performance, sound production, songwriting, and industry practices. The programme combines practical skills with music literacy and industry knowledge, delivered through courses such as Sound Production Fundamentals, Live and Studio Sound Production Techniques, Exploring Music Through Song Writing, and Contemporary Music Performance and Industry Practices. The course includes approximately 34 teaching weeks plus 6 weeks of study break, providing 120 credits. State-of-the-art facilities include performance theatres and recording studios. Graduates gain capability in reading and writing music, music composition and arrangement, technical instrument skills, music creation technology, research skills related to music practice, interpersonal skills for the music industry, and career planning.
