Graduates will be able to design, implement, and evaluate public and environmental health programmes and interventions in various contexts.

Graduates will have skills in teamwork, codesign, community engagement, advocacy, and leadership for health initiatives.

The Public and Environmental Health Major of the Bachelor of Health Science at AUT prepares students for roles where they can make a real difference in community and planetary health. The programme emphasises flexible, problem-solving, and holistic approaches to contemporary health issues, underpinned by commitments to human rights, health equity, social justice, and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Students develop vital skills in communication, collaboration, advocacy, codesign, evaluation, and leadership, and complete at least 150 hours of workplace experience. The degree includes a wide range of public health and health promotion courses and offers the ability to complete minors and electives from other disciplines.
