Gain foundational skills in reading, writing, and mathematics as applicable for further study and employment.

Understand and apply personal health, wellbeing philosophies, and basic personal budgeting.

Work effectively in teams and communicate clearly in different contexts including the workplace.
This NZQA Level 1 certificate provides young people (16–19 years) who have not yet achieved a tertiary qualification with core capabilities in confidence, basic knowledge and skills, literacy, and numeracy, preparing them for further study at Level 2 or 3 and for entry-level roles. The course integrates personal wellbeing, workplace skills, communication, budgeting, leadership, Māori values, and teamwork. It is fully-funded and delivered at Mangere and Henderson campuses.
What you need to know first
Students must be at least 15 years old with MOE exemption before the programme, or 16–19 years of age.
Not enrolled in secondary school.
