Understand the diverse cultures encountered in support work and engage with disabled people, whānau, and communities in a manner that respects socio-cultural identities and experiences.

The Apprenticeship in Disability Support (Level 4) prepares experienced staff for advanced roles supporting disabled people. Delivered through on-job learning, apprentices develop skills in person-centred support, autonomy, goal setting, and navigating challenges in partnership with tangata whaikaha, their families and whānau. The philosophy centres on empowering disabled people to live good lives within their communities. Apprentices build critical thinking and reflective practice, deepen cultural competence, and gain nationally recognised qualifications, all supported by Careerforce’s Apprenticeship Advisors and the Aka Toi online platform.
