Apply best practice and ethical principles to ensure the physical and emotional safety of youth in diverse settings.

Guide young people in setting and achieving personal goals and developing action plans for their future.
This well-supported and resourced apprenticeship develops youth workers’ understanding of the wider social context in which they work. It aims to build the skills and attitudes necessary to support autonomy, identify goals, reduce vulnerability, and build resilience in young people, enabling them to achieve their aspirations. The programme is guided by Mana Taiohi and the Code of Ethics for Youth Work in Aotearoa New Zealand, with learning supported through on-job activities and the Aka Toi online platform. Apprentices develop professional, ethical, and reflective practice with a focus on goal-setting, project development, and relationship building in youth and social services contexts.
