A short Level 4 programme for support workers who want to develop safe, ethical, and effective ways to work alongside young people, supporting and mentoring them to reach their goals.
In-person study
Face-to-face learning in a physical classroom setting
It will take a total of 22 weeks

Define a safe environment and identify unwanted behaviour while ensuring supervision for both young people and support workers.

Develop strategies to resolve conflict between personal and others’ attitudes and values, apply professional codes, and work ethically.

This short programme is intended for experienced support workers who already hold the New Zealand Certificate in Health & Wellbeing (Social and Community) (Level 4) and wish to supplement their skills specifically for working with youth. The course covers creating safe environments, ethical and professional behaviour in youth work, mentoring young people to identify and achieve goals, and developing action plans. It is not a full qualification but leads to NZQA unit standards on the learner's Record of Achievement.
What you need to know first
Minimum of 6 months working with youth
Completion of the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Social and Community) (Level 4) with strands in Community Facilitation, Community Health Work, Mental Health and Addiction, or Social Services (or approved equivalent from another provider)
