Develop the ability to create and maintain a safe environment for young people and support staff, including recognising and managing unwanted behaviour and undertaking appropriate supervision.

Understand and apply strategies for managing conflict between your own attitudes/values and those of others, adhering to relevant ethical codes and working professionally when supporting youth development.
This Level 4 short programme is aimed at support workers who wish to know how to safely and professionally lead youth development projects. It is intended as supplementary learning for those who have already completed the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Social and Community) (Level 4) or similar. Learners will gain skills in creating safe environments for youth, ethical behaviour, and professional practice, as well as planning, implementing, and evaluating youth development projects. The course is delivered as a coherent programme, not a qualification, but credits achieved count towards the learner's NZQA Record of Achievement.
What you need to know first
Completion of New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Social and Community) (Level 4), with strands in Community Facilitation, Community Health Work, Mental Health and Addiction, or Social Services (delivered as Careerforce apprenticeship programmes) OR equivalent from another provider.
