Students will be equipped to deliver practice-based education and care in a range of early childhood education settings, integrating theory with practical experience.

The New Zealand Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 4) at Ara prepares you to provide practice-based education and care in early childhood settings, or to continue to higher-level study in teaching. You'll learn to design learning experiences aligned with socio-cultural learning theories, develop a personal philosophy of professional practice, implement inclusive teaching, and communicate effectively in early childhood environments. The programme includes a practicum and is timetabled during school hours to support students with children.
What you need to know first
NCEA Level 1 (80 credits at Level 1, including 10 Literacy credits and 10 Numeracy credits), OR
New Zealand Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 3)

Interview to assess suitability for work with children
Police vetting required upon successful application
Alternative study, work or life experience may provide alternative entry
