The Master of Teaching and Learning at AUT is an intensive, one-year professional qualification designed for those with a bachelor's degree who want to become early childhood or primary/intermediate teachers. Specialise in either area and engage in curriculum studies, educational theory, research, and over 80 days of teaching practicum in Aotearoa New Zealand settings. Graduates can apply for provisional registration with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Engage in research and critical inquiry to improve teaching, reflect on and evaluate personal and peer practice.
Some experience with 0–5-year-olds (early childhood) or 5–12-year-olds (primary/intermediate) recommended
Initial Teacher Education (ITE) Programme entry form
Successful completion of literacy and numeracy assessments
Meet Teaching Council English language competency requirement
Interview (face-to-face or online)
Good character and fitness criteria (Teaching Council requirements)
Police vetting (NZ and overseas if required)
Satisfactory references
Meet Children’s Act 2014 safety check requirements
