Capability to teach learners of all backgrounds, with knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and incorporating te reo Māori in teaching practice.
The Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Secondary) at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington prepares students to become secondary school teachers in New Zealand. The programme covers key principles and theories of teaching and learning, effective classroom practice, and working with learners from diverse backgrounds. The course includes 16 weeks of teaching placement, and can be completed in 10 months (full time), 18 months, or two years (part-time). Graduates are eligible for provisional teacher certification and will be prepared for secondary teaching roles both in New Zealand and overseas.
