The Bachelor of Visual Arts Te Tohu Paetahi mō Toi Ataata at AUT is designed for those passionate about art and contemporary visual culture. The degree is studio-focused and encourages exploration across disciplines such as painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, sculpture, and moving-image. Students learn in a collaborative environment, develop an understanding of mātauranga Māori, and acquire skills needed for arts practices and creative industries. Graduates will understand key trends and concepts in contemporary art, collaborative creative processes, and will be prepared for diverse roles in the art sector or as independent artists.

In-person study
Face-to-face learning in a physical classroom setting
City Campus, Auckland
It will take a total of 3 years
Gain knowledge of prevailing ideas, movements, and methodologies in the contemporary art field.

Understand the importance of mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge) within visual arts, and incorporate bicultural awareness into creative work.
Equivalent entry requirement for students with overseas qualifications or prior tertiary study
IELTS (Academic) 6.0 overall with no band lower than 5.5, or equivalent (for international students)
