Experiment with a range of techniques and materials to formulate personal visual language in ceramic arts, applying core and advanced skills to materialise ideas.

Evaluate and interpret visual arts in historical and cultural contexts, including New Zealand and indigenous perspectives.
This one-year (full-time) diploma programme offers an emphasis on exploration, experimentation and the development of projects in ceramics, underpinned by art theory and historical context. Delivered from the Dunedin School of Art and through a national network of partnered studios and workshops, it is New Zealand's only specialised tertiary ceramics programme. Graduates will gain a strong technical base in ceramics, develop visual literacy and creative rigour, and be prepared for further study or independent art practice.
Entry Requirements
Under 20: NCEA Level 2 or NZQA Level 3, or Level 4 qualification in a related field, or evidence of equivalent knowledge and skills.

Master ceramic construction methods, glaze application, and technical studio processes for both functional and non-functional objects.
Applicants over 20: No minimum academic entry requirements.
Portfolio submission including examples of artwork and process.
Letter of motivation (300 words).
IELTS 5.5 (academic, no band score lower than 5.5) or accepted equivalent (if English is not your first language).
Blended study
