Graduates can integrate classroom-based learning with real-world clinical experiences across a variety of physiotherapy contexts.

AUT’s Master of Physiotherapy Practice is designed for students who already hold a relevant undergraduate degree and wish to become registered physiotherapists in Aotearoa New Zealand. The programme features active, student-centred learning with clinical case scenarios, role plays, simulations, and embedded clinical placements. Graduates develop research skills, clinical judgment, and advanced physiotherapy competencies through coursework and supervised placements in hospital and community settings. Completion allows application for registration with the Physiotherapy Board of New Zealand.
What you need to know first
A relevant bachelor’s degree with a B+ average (GPA 6) or higher at level 7, or equivalent (possible backgrounds: health sciences, exercise science, human anatomy, human physiology, kinesiology, medical)

Face-to-face learning in a physical classroom setting
Available in 3 locations
It will take a total of 2 years
This course requires 40 hours per week
Students learn to assess and manage a broad diversity of patient populations and health needs using evidence-based approaches.

Graduates will acquire and apply research skills relevant to physiotherapy, including completion of a research project.
Capability to meet Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act (HPCA Act) requirements and Children’s Act 2014, including police clearance
Current immunisations (as per School of Clinical Sciences)
Ability to travel to clinical placements
Ranking of applicants may occur with preference to those with higher academic achievement and/or evidence of accomplishments in relevant field
May be required to attend a selection interview
Admission subject to programme leader approval
