Apply Kawa and Tikanga in Practice
Demonstrate an understanding of kawa and tikanga, recognising the role of Māori as tangata whenua in Aotearoa in a support setting.
What You're Signing Up For
This apprenticeship develops the skills and knowledge needed to work alongside people living with or rehabilitating from a brain injury. Apprentices will learn tools and strategies to maximise client independence, achieve rehabilitation goals, and empower whānau. The programme is workplace-based and supported through Careerforce’s team of Apprenticeship Advisors and online learning via Aka Toi. Graduates earn a nationally recognised Level 4 NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing, Rehabilitation Support (Brain Injury).
Course Content
- Collaborative support and working alongside health and wellbeing professionals
- Understanding kawa and tikanga with a focus on the role of Māori as tangata whenua in Aotearoa
- Cultivating professionalism, safety, and quality in the workplace
- Providing leadership, education, or training support in health/wellbeing settings
- Supporting individuals and their whānau/natural supports in rehabilitation
- Specialist skills and knowledge in supporting clients with brain injury
- On-job learning and reflective practice
- Self-directed, proactive approaches in rehabilitation
- Utilising Careerforce’s Aka Toi online learning platform

Must be currently employed in a relevant role (e.g. Brain Injury Rehabilitation Assistant or Rehabilitation Support Staff in hospital, residential, or community settings)
