What You're Signing Up For
The BE(Hons) degree provides hands-on and theoretical education in various engineering disciplines including civil, chemical and process, computer, electrical and electronic, forest, mechanical, mechatronics, and software engineering. Students complete a flexible first year to explore disciplines, major on one engineering discipline, and may combine the degree with others through conjoint or double degrees. The programme includes compulsory coursework, advanced specialization courses, and approximately 800 hours of practical work placement to develop professional skills, ethics, communication, and sustainability knowledge.
Course Content
- Compulsory first year courses: ENGR100 Engineering Academic Skills, ENGR101 Foundations of Engineering, EMTH118 Engineering Mathematics 1A, EMTH119 Engineering Mathematics 1B, PHYS101 Engineering Physics A, COSC131 Introduction to Programming for Engineers, plus three 100-level courses based on intended discipline
- ENGR200 Engineering Work Experience (second year compulsory)
- Study options in eight engineering disciplines including Chemical and Process, Civil, Computer, Electrical and Electronic, Forest, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Software Engineering
- Available engineering minors such as Aerospace, Biomedical, Bioprocess, Communications and Network, Environmental Process, Power, Structural, Sustainable Energy, Water and Environmental Systems Engineering
- Practical work placement of approximately 100 days (800 hours)
- Flexible conjoint and double degree options
What you need to know first
NCEA Level 3 with at least 14 credits in mathematics or calculus (including differentiation and integration), physics and chemistry (chemistry required depending on specialization); alternatively IB Diploma, CIE A Levels or equivalent qualifications as detailed in admission requirements.
