Demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary to construct, repair, and install buildings and structures as required of a commercially competent carpenter.

Apply safety procedures and communicate effectively in construction environments.

Undertake project management tasks related to building work including planning, organising, and supervising construction projects.
The Certificate in Carpentry is intended for those currently employed in the carpentry industry as apprentices and wishing to become qualified carpenters. The qualification covers the full range of practical and theoretical skills needed to construct, repair, and install building structures. The programme is designed to be completed on the job and prepares graduates for the Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) scheme. Course content includes core construction skills, communication, safety, project management, and supervised on-site work.

40 credits NCEA Level 1, including 10 literacy credits and 10 numeracy credits OR New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (Level 3) or equivalent
Must be employed in the Carpentry industry at time of study; enter into a 3-way training agreement between the candidate, employer and Ara.
If English is not your first language, an IELTS score of 5.5 Academic (with no band less than 5.0) or equivalent is required.
