The programme develops applied skills in building documentation analysis, building plan assessment, inspection processes, compliance evaluation, professional communication, and risk management within the New Zealand regulatory environment. Aligned to regulatory requirements and industry practice, it combines distance learning with in-employment experiential learning.
What you need to know first
Minimum of 50 NCEA credits at Level 2 or above, including 12 English/related credits at Level 2 and 10 Numeracy credits at Level 1, or equivalent knowledge/skills

Trades qualification at Level 3 or above (English as instruction language) or New Zealand Certificate in Building Regulatory Environment (Level 4)
Special admission: Age 20+ with evidence of relevant aptitude/experience via interview or referee checks
In-employment admission: Must be employed in a technical building control role; employer evidence required for supervision, duties, and hours (minimum 1076 relevant work hours over 2 years).
Provisional admission possible for under 20s with evidence of educational attainment or work/life experience at the discretion of the academic director
