The Master of Commercial Music (MCommMus) at Massey University is an industry-aligned qualification designed for practitioners and producers in music and related commercial sectors. Students explore a wide range of contemporary and traditional music practices, including production, performance, songwriting, composition for games and screen media, publishing, promotion, management, sound design, and more. The qualification blends conceptual, theoretical, and commercial strategies, supports Indigenous creative practices, and provides access to state-of-the-art facilities. The programme involves both coursework and a significant research thesis project, encouraging independent experimental practice and research-driven enquiry informed by global and local perspectives.
What you need to know first
Relevant bachelor's degree or equivalent with minimum B grade average, or Bachelor of Commercial Music (Honours) with minimum B grade at 700-800 level, or admission via equivalent status and appropriate professional experience.

Academic transcripts for non-Massey studies.
Current IELTS (or equivalent) score if English is not the first language or prior degree language of tuition.
