What You're Signing Up For
The Graduate Diploma in Publishing (Applied) is New Zealand's only full-time training course for publishing, developed in partnership with the industry. Students learn by doing, taking manuscripts through the entire publication process in a team environment and undertaking two work placements. The program emphasizes practical skills in editing, project management, typesetting, marketing, and production, supported by industry expert tutors and guest speakers. Graduates are equipped to work in a variety of publishing roles across print and digital media.
Course Content
- Planning and promoting a publication (manuscript assessment, market research, costing, scheduling, marketing, distribution)
- Production from idea to print/digital publication (writing, editing, typesetting, supervision of design and print)
- Project management in publishing
- Work placements in publishing companies
- Industry guest speakers (publishers, editors, designers, publicists, booksellers, authors)
- Team-based production processes (taking a manuscript through to publication)

Undergraduate degree or equivalent
