About This Course
This hands-on programme is for anyone passionate about fashion and considering a creative career in the industry. You will learn the fundamentals of fashion design, textiles, and garment construction, and gain insights into industry practice. The practical coursework and studio-based projects help you develop a portfolio for job applications or bachelor-level study. You'll study in a vibrant design community, benefit from specialist staff and facilities, and have the opportunity to exhibit your creative work.
Course Content
- Fashion Industry Practice: workings of the global/local fashion industry; sustainability and ethical challenges; merchandising and consumer behaviour; window or in-store display project; online promotion; career mapping; portfolio creation.
- Fashion Design and Textile Concepts: fashion design process; drawing and writing for idea communication; fashion communication project; textile structure and techniques; creative textile project.
- Fashion Production: operation of industrial sewing equipment; basics of garment construction and pattern making; two technical projects; a final Fashion Design project synthesising technical and creative skills.
