Develop skills and understanding to effectively operate in a bicultural and multicultural society, addressing diverse educational contexts in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Use a rights-based approach to support the educational and social development of children and young people, incorporating learner identity, empowerment, and adherence to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC, 1989).
This master’s degree is designed for leaders, educators, and those working in communities to deepen knowledge in educational and developmental psychology. The programme emphasises critical application to promote positive change for children, young people, and educational professionals, with a strong bicultural approach reflecting Aotearoa New Zealand. Content includes assessment, learning and change processes, child rights, multiculturism, and professional practice. Compulsory block workshops are held at Manawatū campus. Completion does not lead to registration as an Educational Psychologist, but qualifies graduates for the internship postgraduate diploma.
What you need to know first
A Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Educational Psychology, or a related relevant discipline with at least a B average in highest level courses.

Gain expertise in working collaboratively with professionals across education, psychology, health, and community fields.
At least 60 credits of approved psychology courses, 45 credits at 200 level or higher, grade average of at least B.
At least 45 credits of approved education courses, 30 credits at 200 level or higher, grade average of at least B.
One year full-time or two years part-time professional, learning, or community learning experience related to education.
English language competency (Massey University standard).
Police clearance for Part Two.
