What You're Signing Up For

The Doctor of Education (EdD) at the University of Auckland is a unique, part-time doctoral programme designed for working professionals in the education sector. The programme combines a supportive cohort model for the first two years with individualised research supervision for the remainder. Students undertake advanced, practice-focused research aimed at enhancing educational practice and policy. The EdD has the same status as a PhD.

Course Content

  • Part One: Two-year cohort-based research portfolio (120 points)
  • EDUC 801 Literature Review (30 Points)
  • EDUC 802 Theoretical Framework (30 Points)
  • EDUC 803 Study Design (30 Points)
  • EDUC 804 Thesis Proposal (30 Points)
  • Research portfolio submission and public confirmation seminar
  • Part Two: Thesis of original research (240 points) with guidance from cohort seminars and individual supervision
  • Oral examination of thesis
