About This Course
This Level 6 diploma prepares you to work as an electrical engineering technician. You will learn a broad range of electrical engineering fundamentals and develop specialist skills in power systems, electronics, and control systems. Graduates can work in engineering roles supporting New Zealand's infrastructure and power distribution needs, meeting benchmarks such as the Dublin Accord. You will study at MIT's award-winning TechPark campus in Auckland with both hands-on and theoretical learning.

- Electrical principles: DC, AC, three-phase theory, measuring equipment
- Computer-aided drawing (CAD) for electrical engineering
- Electronic principles: circuits, digital, analogue, power supplies
- Power engineering: three-phase circuits, distribution, metering, earthing and protection
- Electrical machines: transformers, motors (DC and AC), speed control, induction machines
- PLC programming (levels 1 and 2): PLC hardware/software, programming languages
- Instrumentation and control: transmitters, feedback control systems, actuators
- Power systems: generation, transmission, distribution, HV/MV networks, fault analysis
- Protection: fault protection for power systems, safety, substation basics
- Sustainable energy & power electronics: converters, renewables (up to 100kW)
- High power electrical motors for transport: electric drive topologies, cryogenics
