What You're Signing Up For
This course equips students with the knowledge and safety principles necessary for working with high voltage vessel systems (over 1,000V). It covers operational responsibilities in a marine electrical power plant and meets the requirements of STCW 1978 as amended, A-III/1. Students will understand the configuration and operating principles of high voltage installations on board sea vessels.

- Definition of high voltage in maritime context
- Use and application of high-voltage installations on board ships
- Common voltages classified as high voltage at sea
- Types of equipment/installations: generator, distribution board, motors
- Characteristics/features of high-voltage vs. low voltage installations
- Earthing via resistor and earthed neutral systems
- Indications of earth faults in high voltage systems
- Safety precautions for working on high voltage electrical equipment
- Remote operation procedures to maintain safe distance
