If you are involved in conservation fieldwork, this Level 4 short course at NMIT provides the training required for Department of Conservation (DOC) best practice in vertebrate pesticide control. It also covers all pre-requisite requirements for compliance certification under HSNO and AVCM acts, equipping you to safely conduct and document pest control operations using certified substances. Core topics include legal compliance, technical field methods, and safety for a range of pesticides.
Course Content
- DOC best practices in vertebrate pesticide control
- Compliance certification requirements (HSNO, AVCM acts)
- Hazard classifications and adverse effects
- Legal controls and compliance
- Personal protective equipment and safety data
- Precautions and emergency procedures
- Establishing transect lines (permanent and temporary)
- Use of 1080 cereal baits for possum control
- Use of Feratox potassium cyanide strikers for possum control
- Cholecalciferol D3 bait bags for rats
- Other pesticides: PestOff rat bait 50D, Pindone/diphacinone pellets, PestOff rodent pellets, Cholecalciferol DeCal possum bait, blocks and hard pastes
- Documentation of results in a field situation
