About This Course

This course is designed for those wanting to deepen their skills in applied science, especially in biodiversity management, biosecurity, and environmental monitoring. You’ll learn to solve current challenges facing New Zealand and the Pacific, combining technical and research skills with mātauranga Māori and working closely with government, industry, and community partners. Flexible study is available, including part-time options.

Course Content

  • Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement: Engaging authentically with Māori, indigenous peoples, and other stakeholders in environmental projects.
  • Applied Research Methods: Developing skills for applied research and creating research proposals.
  • Biosecurity: Strategy & Implementation: Integrating current practices and Māori traditional values to manage pest operations.
  • Environmental Monitoring: Field research and hands-on monitoring with innovative technology and partner organisations.

Entry Requirements

A recognised Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a relevant discipline with a B- grade average or equivalent.

OR a professional qualification in a relevant discipline, recognised as equivalent.

Special Admission: Aged 20+, evidence of relevant work or life experience, CV, academic transcripts, 3 years minimum work experience, statement of purpose, two written references.

English language requirements: IELTS 6.5 with no band lower than 6, or New Zealand Certificate in English Language Level 5 with Academic Endorsement, or meets NZQA English Proficiency Outcomes.
