Understand fundamental concepts and practices in agriculture, horticulture, forestry, and beekeeping.
This practical certificate is designed for new or potential entrants into the primary industry sector, including seasonal workers, career changers, and those not yet engaged in education or employment. The programme covers an introductory level understanding of horticulture, fruit production, fencing, beekeeping, water quality, land ecology, natural earth building, forestry, and re-vegetation. Learning largely occurs outside the classroom at community gardens, farms, and marae, emphasizing physical work and community engagement. Graduates gain skills for entry-level roles in the primary sector and a pathway to further study at higher levels.
