New Zealand Maritime School, Auckland
It will take a total of 17 weeks

Gain skills to operate as master (<500GT Near Coastal) or as skipper of a fishing vessel (limited area), responsible for crew, vessel, and passengers.

Ability to manage loading, stowage, and care of cargo; oversee vessel operations and monitor compliance with standards.

Command navigation and control of emergencies at a management level, with understanding of legislative compliance.
This course enables students to progress into command roles aboard fishing or commercial vessels as a master (<500GT Near Coastal) or limited area fishing skipper. The qualification provides essential skills in navigation, vessel operations, and management, including practical simulator learning. Graduates will meet the requirements to apply for Maritime New Zealand certificates, subject to additional MNZ criteria.
