What You're Signing Up For

The Certificate in Spirits, Cocktails and Bartending Micro-Credential at the New Zealand School of Food and Wine is a five-day, practical programme designed for those wishing to work in bars and restaurants. Students gain hands-on training in mixology, product knowledge, classic cocktail preparation, alcohol service, and customer communication skills. The course builds host responsibility knowledge in accordance with the Sale of Alcohol Act 2012 and awards an NZQA-accredited micro-credential certificate upon completion.

Course Content

  • Identify and describe the key equipment and tools of a professional bar
  • Identify and describe characteristics and production methods of the main spirits categories and liqueurs used in bars and restaurants
  • Prepare classic cocktails served in bars and restaurants
  • Serve, advise and prepare a wide selection of alcohol-based drinks including cocktails and liqueurs
  • Gain understanding of host responsibility under the Sale of Alcohol Act 2012
  • Develop customer service and communication skills for hospitality work
