About This Course
This two-day Barista Skills Short Course gives learners a comprehensive understanding of coffee heritage, preparation, and service. Participants learn the history and evolution of coffee, and gain practical experience making all types of café coffee beverages. Upon successful completion of Service IQ unit standards, students are awarded an Otago Polytechnic Certificate of Achievement, helping them gain recognition for their barista skills.

- History and evolution of coffee
- Coffee heritage and production (NZ unit standard 17284)
- Preparation and presentation of espresso beverages for service (NZ unit standard 17288)
- Use of Service IQ workbook and assessment
- Understanding coffee recipes commonly requested in cafés
