Subject to NZQA approval, the New Zealand Certificate in Horticulture (General) Level 3 course offers practical skills and knowledge for horticulture industry entry. Topics include plant science, growing environments, plant health, propagation, cultivation, and growing systems. Delivery is online via Open Polytechnic with regional support from NorthTec including optional local workshops. The course suits learners aiming to work in plant nurseries, orchards, greenhouses or interested in self-sufficient gardening. Applicants must be at least 16 years old, able to communicate in English, and physically able to meet programme outcomes. The programme is not available to international students. Funding options include Youth Guarantee Fund for eligible students aged 16-24. The course links to pathways like crop farming, nursery growing, and orchard management. It builds a foundation for further study or employment in horticulture-related roles.
