What You're Signing Up For

This Certificate in Pharmacy (Introduction) (Level 3) programme is designed to equip students with core knowledge and practical skills for retail pharmacy work. Graduates will be prepared for non-dispensing positions in pharmacies, working under the supervision of a pharmacist. The curriculum encompasses online learning, a 6-week clinical placement, and competencies related to ethical and professional practice, customer service, first aid, and pharmacy-related products and services.

Course Content

  • Safe practice in pharmacy including ethical and professional conduct
  • Legislation related to the pharmacy workplace
  • Customer/patient service and cultural appropriateness
  • Pharmacy-related products and services
  • First aid
  • Referral to pharmacist and decision-making on safe product provision
  • Clinical placement (6 weeks in retail pharmacy)
  • Point-of-sale transactions and retail operations
  • Support activities within the pharmacy

What you need to know first

Domestic students: At least 16 years of age at programme start date.

8 credits at NCEA Level 1 in English (4 in reading, 4 in writing) or equivalent.

Minimum of 3 years secondary education.

No minimum academic requirements for applicants 20 years of age and over.

International students: Not currently available through AGI; refer to Kauri Academy.
