Ability to accurately observe, record, and interpret laboratory results and communicate findings to support patient diagnosis and treatment.
The Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science at AUT prepares graduates to become medical laboratory scientists, offering comprehensive training in biological and chemical sciences, diagnostic methods, laboratory management, and clinical practice. The programme includes a strong foundation in life sciences, advanced laboratory techniques, specialised streams in areas such as haematology and pathology, and a year-long clinical placement in approved laboratories. Upon completion and meeting regulatory requirements, graduates are eligible for registration as medical laboratory scientists in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Face-to-face learning in a physical classroom setting
City Campus, Auckland
It will take a total of 4 years

Skills in laboratory information systems, quality management, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards.
University Entrance or equivalent qualification
NCEA: 14+ credits in each of Biology, Chemistry, and Statistics
CIE: D grade or better at AS or A level in each of Biology, Chemistry, and Statistics
Police clearance/fitting HPCA Act requirements
English: At least IELTS (Academic) 6.5 overall with all bands 6.0 or higher, or equivalent
